Projects and Project manager

An integral part of the MetPetDB project is the concept of a "Project" and the "Project Manager".

Projects

Projects are defined as a set of collaborators working on a shared suite of samples. The function of a project is to facilitate the sharing of data among collaborators, to provide a means of saving derived data (e.g. mineral recalculations, plots, or thermobarometry), and as a platform on which the various MetPetDB tools can be applied.

Projects will have a project chief and project participants. The project chief is responsible for overseeing the project and participants. An individual can be chief or participant on any number of projects.

Projects can contain archive and non-archive data. The data permissions take precedence over access. Editing can ONLY be done to correct errors as indicated above. Archive data will always have only system people access (to fix errors).

  • Project chief
    • Assign project members and access privileges
  • All project participants (including chief)
    • Add samples to project
    • Manipulate and download project information
    • Use tools on data
    • Create derivative data that can be saved/stored in the database. These derivative data can be public or private

Project Manager

The Project Manager is a userinterface that coordinates the handling of project information such as Project chief, participants, and project data. It will have the following functionality:

  • Permit creation of new projects (by project chief)
  • Allow project chief to add new project members (or delete ones)
  • Allow project members to add samples to a project
  • Allow a data owner (for Non-archive, unpublished data) to permit access by a project
